We often get asked, “what does N-C-W stand for?” Many times, we proceed with caution as we answer this question, unless we can give the full picture. Why? Because, today, we are so much more than the full version of our acronym. National Construction Workforce, “NCW,” (officially registered as National Labor Contractors), was founded in 2000. Steve Wise, our one-of-a-kind President, started in the talent industry after leaving a nationally respected construction staffing firm.

After four years in sales, Steve wanted to become an entrepreneur in the industry, primarily to have more control over the treatment of the labor he was providing. He started a labor supply company with a partner—targeting several markets across the country, but still did not feel good about the way they were operating. He was dissatisfied with the benefits construction employees received. For this reason, a few years later Steve left to go out on his own. Now that it was his turn to make the rules, he wanted to start out with a small office in Indianapolis. Thus, began National Construction Workforce.

When Steve opened the doors to NCW in 2000, he envisioned a strong local brand that offered construction workers exactly what they deserved –full benefits and fair treatment. In the years to come, he wanted NCW to be able to lease labor in every facet of business and in every industry. In the following eight years, NCW did very little national work, ironically. Steve was focused on large local contractors that he had previous connections with—all in the construction industry. In the early years of NCW, Steve discovered that building a successful company was about finding the right people. Eventually, he did just that.

In 2010, Steve’s young, zealous financial advisor joined the NCW family as the Vice President. Steve says, “I had lots of ideas and dreams, but didn’t have the skill to put it together.” Fortunately, Dan Mattingly filled this void, and put the ideas into motion as soon as he stepped through the doors. According to Steve, “Dan accomplishes anything when he sets his mind to it. He gets it done.”

A lot has happened since 2000 and NCW is getting closer to the vision Steve had at the start. We now serve a variety of industries—insurance, finance, manufacturing, warehousing, machining, engineering, technical sales, etc.—in addition to construction, which still represents the majority of our revenue. Our family has grown internally as well as in the field, and we have added hundreds of customers that we are very proud to serve.

Today, we are a team of more than 500 strong, and can supply more than just temporary labor to these industries. We provide direct placement, temp-to-hire, and outsourced talent solutions in addition to our original staffing services. We are so proud of our origins as a professional recruiting firm. We look back on where we’ve come from with fondness and smiles, and look forward to the day we are the nation’s top source of talent in every industry.
