We are seeking a Buyer experienced in buying consumer products. This position is with a well-known domestic and international distributor of pleasure products. In this position you will negotiate prices, discounts, payment terms, transportation terms, damage allowances, exclusivity, etc., with all suppliers for which you are responsible.  This role requires you to be objective and make decisions based entirely on the company’s best interests. You must be service oriented, actively looking for ways to help internal and external business partners and conferring with sales, marketing and purchasing personnel to obtain information about retailer and end-user needs and preferences. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with some weekends and nights. Trade show attendance as assigned is required.

What You’ll Do
  • Negotiate the best prices, discounts, payment terms, transportation terms, damage allowances, exclusivity, etc. with all suppliers for which you are responsible.  
  • Confer with sales, marketing and purchasing personnel to obtain information about retailer and end-user needs and preferences.  
  • Conduct new products meetings with sales and marketing personnel to gauge opinion about new products under consideration and to get buy-ins on new initiatives.  
  • Recommend markup percentage, markdown percentage, customer discount levels, and wholesale prices for merchandise while regularly reviewing supplier compliance with company financial goals.  
  • Work closely with suppliers to get the first choice of new products and first deliveries and be the first to know of any upcoming changes to their business model. Avoid products that we have decided we will not carry.  
  • Place sale and seasonal buys that exploit extra markup opportunities.
